Roy Kelly Nash
Born October 17, 1915 at Longstreet, DeSoto Parish, Louisiana, sixth of Fred and Callie's seven children. He grew up at Longstreet: the census found him there at four in 1920, in a house of seven children, and at fourteen in 1930. In April 1940 he was twenty-four, married, and working near Ingleside, in San Patricio County on the Texas coast, as a fireman on an oil drilling rig. He had married Helen Christine Pawlik in Jim Wells County on October 1, 1938, and by October 1940 they were living at Alice, where he worked for H. H. Howell, an independent oil operator drilling the fields around Premont and Orange Grove. The 1950 census recorded him exactly: "Oil Field Tester," oil production industry, 72 hours a week; the family remembered him as an "oilfield spotter." He worked the producing side of the midcentury oil business across four states. He died in November 1985 at Bossier City and was brought home to Longstreet Memorial Cemetery.
