Rynalde Marvin
Rynalde Marvin, called RAYNOLD MARVEN OF RAMSEY by the writer of his will and signing himself RYNALDE MERVYN, is the earliest documented man of this Marvin family. He was born about 1514 or earlier, because he had six children living when he made his will on 22 December 1554, and he was dead before 14 October 1561.
He calls himself a yeoman. The Exchequer Lay Subsidy of 1540 taxed him twenty shillings, and between his rents and his farms he was comfortable. He held the estates at Ramsey called Benettes and Genettes, the latter bought of John Dave; lands on the Ray called East Haull, the Ray and Barwycke, where he kept sheep and left the ewes to his widow; and the tenement at Wrabness, free and copyhold, which became the family's corner property and descended in a straight line for four generations.
He directed that he be buried in St. Michael's at Ramsey. The stone is gone. His original will is on parchment at Somerset House.
