Samuel Myers
Samuel Myers was a blacksmith in Washington County, in the southwest corner of Pennsylvania. He was a native of the state. He began life for himself at the forge and followed the trade all his life.
He married Mary A. Steepleton, a daughter of William Steepleton. They had two children, a daughter Rebecca and a son, David Rittenhouse, born on 24 April 1839.
Samuel died in 1841 in Washington County. His son was two years old. Mary lived on as a widow for many years and died in 1879. She belonged to the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, a denomination strong in that part of Pennsylvania.
What is known of him comes from a sketch of his son printed in 1892, in a history of Johnson and Hill counties, Texas. By then Rebecca was living in Virginia. David had gone to Texas in 1860, fought through the Civil War in the Tenth Texas Infantry, and farmed 328 acres west of Cleburne. He spelled the name Myres. His first son, born in 1871, was named Samuel.
His own parents are not known. No estate or deed for him has been found in Washington County.
