Sgt. Robert Boltwood
Robert Boltwood perhaps came from Essex in England. He is first named in the Connecticut records in 1648, and he was made a freeman of that colony on 20 May 1658. He probably lived in the east part of Wethersfield, the part that later became Glastonbury.
He was one of the first settlers of Hadley, the new town up the Connecticut River in Massachusetts, and was made a freeman of Massachusetts on 26 March 1661. He held the rank of sergeant in the town's militia.
He married a woman named Mary. Their children were Samuel, Sarah, Lydia, Martha and Mary. Three of the daughters married Warners. Sarah married Isaac Warner of Hatfield on 31 May 1666. Mary married James Beebe on 24 October 1667. On 1 April 1674 Martha married Daniel Warner of Hatfield, and the next day Lydia married John Warner of Springfield.
He died at Hadley on 6 April 1684. Mary died on 14 May 1687.
His son Samuel was remembered as "a man of remarkable strength and bravery." He was killed in the French and Indian raid on Deerfield on 29 February 1704. His daughter Sarah, widowed at Deerfield in 1691, had married again in 1696, to Deacon John Loomis of Windsor.
