Susie Lutisha Luce was born on 29 August 1888 at Mount Sylvan, a farm community in Smith County, East Texas. She married William Richard Limerick, called Will, a Smith County man seven years older than she was.
In 1910 the couple were living at Mount Sylvan with their first son, Richard Franklin, born in 1909, whose Texas birth certificate gives his mother's name as Susie Lutessie Luce. Hampton, called Billy, was born in February 1911, Charley Will in March 1913 at Edom in Van Zandt County, and Violet Marie in 1915.
A studio photograph of about 1912 shows her standing at the left in a high-collared white blouse and a long dark skirt, her hair piled up, with Will beside her and Richard and Billy standing on a carved stand between them.
Susie lost her son Billy in 1943 and her husband Will in 1945. She lived on as a widow for thirty seven years, and her son Charley won the Silver Star in Korea in 1951. She died at Tyler on 27 August 1982, two days short of her ninety fourth birthday, and was buried in Tyler Memorial Park. Her bronze marker reads "Susie L. Limerick, 1888", with a rose on either side and an open Bible.
