Susie Malinda Edgmon
Susie Malinda Edgmon was born on 29 January 1893 in Oklahoma Territory, the daughter of Alexander Edgmon, a Tennessean, and Margaret, from Missouri, who had come into Cleveland County within a few years of the land run of 1889. She grew up in Canadian Township, in the river bottoms south of Norman, with a younger sister oddly named Alexander and two brothers, Thomas and Samuel. The census of April 1910 lists her at seventeen in her father's house.
Four months later she married. Elbert E. McDonald, a Texan of 21 living at Lexington, took out the licence at Norman on 29 July 1910, and Henry H. Cordell, the Baptist minister of Science Hill, married them at Lexington on 10 August 1910. The clerk wrote her name Susie M. Edgemon. Her daughter Flora Ruth was born at Davis in Murray County on 6 July 1915, and there were two sons, Joe and Bobie. The family moved to Hughes County before 1920 and settled at Calvin.
Elbert died at Calvin in October 1943. Susie lived another twenty-two years, long enough to see her daughter's children grow up at Holdenville. She died on 5 November 1965, aged 72, and was buried beside him in the Calvin Cemetery under their double stone.
