At Dorchester in 1634, and Savage thinks he probably came over in July 1633 with the company that sat down there, though an earlier historian wanted to count him among the arrivals of 1630. From Dorchester he went with the migration to Windsor on the Connecticut, where his three younger children were born, and about 1661 he moved again to Northampton, twenty five miles further up the same river. He died there on 9 May 1682.

His wife was Avis, and her maiden name is not recorded. She died in 1676, in the middle of King Philip's War, and Northampton was one of the towns that was attacked.

His daughters married into three of the valley families. Hannah, the eldest, married John Broughton and then William Janes. Abigail married John Ingersoll on 2 December 1656. Hepzibah married Robert Lyman in 1662. His son Thomas, of Northampton, married Mary Newell of Farmington in 1667 and died in 1689.
