Thomas Horn
Thomas Horn was born about 1802 in North Carolina. He married Priscilla, born about 1815 in Georgia, whose maiden name is given as Watson on the death certificate of their son John. They had a large family, at least fourteen children, born first in the Carolinas and, from about 1853, in Mississippi.
In 1860 the census found the family in Leake County, Mississippi: Thomas, 60, a native of North Carolina, Priscilla R., 45, and thirteen children from twenty two down to one, among them John, 14, born in South Carolina. The children born up to about 1851 were born in South Carolina, and Elijah, 6, Elisha, 3, and Mary, 1, were born in Mississippi, which places the family's move west between about 1851 and 1854.
Four years later his son John, at sixteen, enlisted in the Confederate army from Leake County.
Twenty years on, in June 1880, Thomas Horne, 76, was still farming in Beat One of Leake County, with Pricilla, 64. Living with them were three grown daughters, Elizabeth Hollis, 41, Nancy Browning, 40, and Tempy Horne, 38, and three grandchildren, Elisha, 22, Mary Hollis, 18, and Miles Browning, 10. Their son John lived in the very next house, with his wife Eliza and their four small children. The youngest, five months old, was entered as Sis.
