Thomas Lincoln
Thomas Lincoln was born at Hingham, Massachusetts, on 20 August 1664, a son of Samuel Lincoln, a weaver who had come from Hingham in England in 1637, and of Samuel's wife Martha.
He left Hingham for Boston and became a tailor. On 3 August 1689, at Boston, he married Mehitable Frost, a daughter of Capt. John Frost. She had been born at Boston on 15 July 1671 and was eighteen. All their children were born at Boston: Mary in 1690, who died young; Mehitable in 1691/2; a second Mary in 1693/4; Martha in 1695; Thomas in 1697; Charles; and Sarah.
He died at Boston on 2 April 1715, in his fifty first year. His children were young. Charles took up his trade. In March 1728/9 his daughters Martha and Sarah sold Charles their shares of land "that was our father's", and in that deed he is "Thomas Lincoln, late of Boston, 'taylor,' deceased". His youngest child, Sarah, married Phineas Pratt of Hingham in 1731.
His elder brother Mordecai, born in 1657, stayed near Hingham. He was a blacksmith and the proprietor of iron works, saw mills and grist mills at Scituate, near the Hingham line, and he married Sarah Jones, a granddaughter of John Whitman of Weymouth. Mordecai's son Mordecai went to New Jersey and then Pennsylvania. Lincoln's History of Hingham follows that branch on through Virginia and Kentucky to "Thomas who was the fa. of President Lincoln."
