Tillman R. Clapp
Tillman R. Clapp was born in Alabama about 1824. He married Delia Riggins, an Alabama girl a year or two younger, and in 1850 they were farming in Marshall County, in northern Alabama, with two small children, Lewis, a year old, and Sarah, a baby. By 1860 there were six children, Lewis, Sarah, William A., Mary, Margaret and Martha, and two very old people born in North Carolina in the 1770s, Nancy and Sarah Riggins, were living with them, kin of Delia. His son William was born at Huntsville in January 1853.
After the Civil War the family left Alabama for Graves County, in the far west of Kentucky. The census of 1870 found Tilman, forty-six, and Delia near Farmington with Sarah, William, Mary, Margaret, a son Tilman, ten, and John, six, all born in Alabama. Within a few years three of his sons, Lewis, William and young Tilman, had moved on to Oregon County, Missouri. Nothing later of Tillman himself is known.
