Unni Olsdatter
Wife of Jens Anfindsen, the farmer of Osen in Leikanger, and fifty when the census of February 1801 entered her beside him with their son Ole, twelve. The marital status column reads Gift 2. gang against her and Gift 1. gang against him, so Osen was her second marriage and there was a husband before Jens whom nothing read names.
Unni is an old Norse woman's name that had thinned out of most of Norway by the eighteenth century and survived mainly in the western fjord districts. Her son Ole took the farm and in August 1815 christened a daughter Unni Olsdatter, for her. That granddaughter married Endre Einarsen of Tjon in 1844, sailed from Bergen for Quebec with him and six children in April 1866, and died in Polk County, Minnesota in 1893.
Her own birth, her death, her first marriage and her parents are unrecorded in every source searched. Her patronymic gives her father's name, Ole, and her son carries it.
