Vincent Dailey was born on 11 December 1832 in Ohio, a son of John H. Dailey and Katherine Southerland, both of Ohio. He married Bethana Jane Rose about 1852. She was four years older than he was, born on 28 November 1828, a daughter of William Rose of Virginia and Marie Adkins.

He farmed Guyan Township in Gallia County, where he is in the censuses of 1880, 1900 and 1910. The enumerators wrote his wife's name a different way each time: Bethane J. in 1880, Burtha in 1900 and Burthana J. in 1910. Their son Vincent Fillmore Dailey, marrying at eighty five in Pickaway County in 1945, gave his mother's name as Bethana Jane Rose. Another son's death return of 1929 calls her Elizabeth Rose.

That son, Jasper Newton, married Nancy Jane Hesson in Gallia County in December 1884, and the Hessons were farming Guyan Township at the same time.

Bethana Jane died on 9 March 1912 and was buried at Good Hope Cemetery. He married again the following year, on 17 May 1913, aged eighty. That second licence names his parents as JOHN H. DAILEY and KATHERINE SOUTHERLAND. His own death certificate, filed five years later, gives the same pair as John Dailey and Katherine Sutherland.

He died on 26 February 1918 at Perry Township, aged eighty five, a farmer to the end, and was buried at Good Hope Cemetery two days later, in the ground his first wife had gone into six years before.
