Walter G. Hewitt
Walter G. Hewitt was born in August 1862 at Nelson, in Buffalo County, Wisconsin, a river town across the Mississippi from Minnesota. His parents were Luther and Mary Hewitt.
On 15 July 1891, at 28, he married Jennett Mattson of Pepin County in Buffalo County. She had been born in April 1876 and was fifteen. Their first daughter, Mamie, was born the next April.
In 1900 the family was living in Maxville township, Buffalo County, a farming township in the hills above the river. The census gave Walter as 37, married eight years, and Jennett as 24, the mother of five children, all living: Mamie, 8, Bessie, 6, Ralph, 5, Lois, 3, and Samuel, 1. By 1905 they had moved up the Chippewa River to Sampson township in Chippewa County, where the state census wrote him as Walker G. Hewit, with more children, Nellie, Mary D. and William G.
By 1910 Jennett was living at Chippewa Falls with the children, and Walter was not in the household. She later remarried and was buried as Jeanette Hewitt Eichler.
