William Bennet married Desire Manchester at Tiverton on 6 December 1722. The Tiverton book enters the marriage under her name, "Desire, and William Bennet". That this was William Bennet of Dartmouth is probable rather than proved: the names, date and place fit, and his widow at Dartmouth was named Desire.

He lived at Dartmouth, Massachusetts. A son, William, married at the Dartmouth Friends' meeting in 1748 and was recorded as "William, s. William and Desire". His daughter Elisabeth married John Taber in 1761.

He was dead by 1776, when his estate was divided and his widow's dower set off to her. A letter among the estate papers of that year speaks of "a Distresed widow and some fatherless children of my faithfull though deceased friend William Bennet".

His grandson Bennet Taber, a New Bedford blacksmith, inherited his mother's share of the land. On 23 October 1789 Bennet sold his share of "ye real Estate which William Bennet late of Dartm[outh] died" owning to his father, John Taber, for ten pounds. The land was then held by the widow Desire Bennet for her life. After her death a committee divided her dower land, on 9 May 1793.
