William Hurst
William Hurst lived at Henlow, in Bedfordshire. His children were baptized there: Henry on 10 June 1561, Joan on 8 May 1563, Agnes on 17 August 1565 and a second Joan on 13 March 1568. A son John was buried on 31 October 1565, and the first Joan evidently died young. The second Joan later sailed on the Mayflower as the wife of John Tilley.
He made his will on 3 June 1570, "being sick but in purfecte remembraunce." He left five pounds to Agnes Underwood, forty shillings to his godson William Hurst and eleven shillings to the poor of Henlow. His wife Rose had his lease of the vicarage close at Henlow and, for her life, the house and lands he had bought of John Awdeley. His son Henry had his lease of a place called Sydams. Everything else went to "Rose my wief and my children," and Rose was his sole executrix.
His burial is not in the Henlow register, which has no entries for 1570. The will was proved in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury on 20 January 1572. Two weeks later, on 4 February 1572, "Rose Hurst, wid." married John Rushe at Henlow.
