Abigail Dodge
Abigail Dodge was born at Beverly on 9 September 1719 and baptized there on 11 October, the eldest child of Edward Dodge and Abigail Haywood of Salem, who had married the year before.
Her father died in the spring of 1751 leaving a will that names her. It gives his wife half the estate and the rest to his son Nehemiah, and it mentions Nehemiah a minor and three daughters, Abigail, Ruth and Rebecca. Her mother was executrix and made oath to the inventory, which runs to a dwelling house, a barn, thirty three acres of homestead, six acres in Wenham, five in the Long Hill pasture, half a right in the Beverly common land, eleven acres of woodland in Manchester and two and a half acres of salt marsh at Ipswich.
She married John Perkins of Wenham on 26 December 1751, nine months after her father's will was proved. She was thirty two, which was late, and the Wenham clerk entered her as Mrs. Abigail Dodge of Beverly.
Five children followed at Wenham: John in 1753, Abigail in 1755, Thomas in 1757, Edward in 1759 and Nehemiah in 1766 or 1767. She named two of them after her own brothers.
