Abigail Picket was born at Stratford, Connecticut, on 30 July 1678. She was the eldest child of Thomas Picket and his first wife, Abigail Seymour of Norwalk, a daughter of Thomas Seamer and Hannah Marvin. Her sister Hannah was born on 20 May 1680 and her brother Jacob on 16 February 1680/1. The family moved to Danbury, where her father died about the start of 1712, leaving a second wife, Sarah, and six sons and three daughters. Her sisters were Sarah, who married a Vidito, and Hannah, whose only son was Thomas Noble of New Milford. Her brothers included Benjamin and Ephraim.

She married Samuel Benedict of Danbury, a grandson of the immigrant Thomas Benedict, and raised at least five children there: Ebenezer, Samuel, Hannah, Mercy and Mary. Mary married a Wildman and died young, leaving a son, Matthew.

In 1724 her brother Benjamin died and left his estate to be divided among his five brothers, his sisters "Sarah Vidito, Abigail Benedict, wife of Samuel Benedict," and their nephew Thomas Noble. Her husband died in January 1735. His will, made on 4 March 1734/5, named "Widow Abigail, daughter of Thomas Picket," and made her and her brother Ephraim Picket executors. She carried the estate of 700 pounds through probate that spring.
