Abigail Seymour
Abigail Seymour was born at Norwalk, Connecticut, in January 1655/6. The town clerk wrote the family name Seamer: "Abigail Seamer, the Daughter of Thos. Seamer, borne in January, 1655." Her parents were Thomas Seamer, a son of Richard Seamer, and Hannah Marvin, a daughter of Matthew Marvin. They had married at Norwalk in January 1653/4. Abigail was their second child.
Her elder sister Hannah had been born on 12 December 1654. After Abigail came the twins Mary and Sarah in September 1658, then Thomas, Mercie, Mathewe, Elissabeth and Rebecka. Hannah married Francis Bushnell in 1675, and Mary married his brother Joshua Bushnell of Saybrook.
On 16 November 1676 Abigail married Thomas Pickett at Norwalk. The Connecticut marriage index enters the couple as "Thomas Pickett" and "Abigail Seamer." Thomas had been baptised at Salem in Massachusetts in 1648, a son of John and Margaret Pickett, who had moved to Stratford. The 1904 Marvin genealogy puts it in one line: "Abigail, b. Jan'y, 1655/6; m. 16 Nov., 1676, Thomas, son of John and Margaret Picket, bap. Nov., 1648, in Salem, Mass.; res., Stratford, Ct."
The Stratford records give three children. Abigail was born on 30 July 1678, Hannah on 20 May 1680 and Jacob on 16 February 1680/1. Abigail grew up to marry Samuel Benedict of Danbury. Hannah married a Noble and was the mother of Thomas Noble of New Milford.
Her grandfather Matthew Marvin made his will in December 1678 and left a share to her mother, "Hanna Semer." Abigail's own death has not been found. She died before her husband, whose widow at his death in 1711/12 was named Sarah. Her husband had moved on to Danbury, where his brother James was settled by 1690.
