Agnes Smith
Agnes Smith married John Webster at Cossington in Leicestershire on 7 November 1609: "John Webster and Agnes Smith, m. 7th November." Her family had been at Cossington as long as the Websters. Her parents are not named.
She bore nine children at Cossington over seventeen years. Matthew was baptised on 11 February 1609/10, Margaret on 21 February 1611/12, William on 25 September 1614, Thomas on 24 November 1616, Robert on 17 November 1619, Anne on 29 July 1621, Mary on 30 March 1623, Elizabeth on 10 May 1624 and Faith on 8 April 1627. Mary and Faith died within days of their christenings. Margaret married Thomas Hunt at Cossington in June 1632.
In 1634 her husband sold the Cossington property and took the family to New England. He settled at Hartford in Connecticut and became magistrate, deputy governor and governor of the colony. After the Hartford church quarrel he led a company up the Connecticut River to found Hadley in Massachusetts, and he died there in 1661. His will of 1659 left the estate to their son Robert as executor. Agnes outlived her husband by about six years and died about 1667, probably at Hartford, back in the town they had left.
