Albert William Gillow
Albert William Gillow was born on 9 January 1854 in Pennsylvania, a son of William Albert Gillow and Esther Burdick. In 1870 he was sixteen and living with his parents in Manchester Township, Wayne County, with his sister Nora, twelve, and a baby brother, Charles E.
He married Alinda E. Potter, a daughter of Joel Potter of Damascus Township, in 1873 or 1874. She was about sixteen. In 1880 the census taker found them farming in Manchester Township and entered him as William A. Gillow, twenty-six, a farmer, with Alinda, twenty-three, and three small sons: Charles, five, Burritt, three, and William, two. Burritt was Bert, born in September 1876.
By 1900 Alinda had borne seven children and five were living. That June the household held Albert, forty-six, Alinda, forty-four, and their sons Ralph, eighteen, Bert, twenty-four, Elton, five, and a small boy born in 1897, written Haulsey D. The son William of 1880 is not in the house in 1900, and he is not among the sons named in 1937. The couple had been married twenty-five years.
They stayed on the Manchester Township farm through 1920, with only Elton, fifteen, still at home in 1910. By 1930 they had moved to Buckingham Township, in the north of the county, where the census found Albert, seventy-six, and Alinda, seventy-three. He died on 15 May 1931 and was buried at Equinunk Cemetery. Alinda outlived him by six years, and they share one stone: "ALBERT GILLOW 1854-1931 / ALINDA HIS WIFE 1857-1937."
