Alfred Perkins
Born at Greig, Lewis County, New York on 26 August 1846, son of Allen Perkins and Amanda Melissa Brown. A Civil War veteran of Company F, 186th New York, the same company his father served in. He took his family out of Lewis County in the early 1870s and settled at Blue Springs, Gage County, Nebraska, the same small township the Bryants had reached, where his daughter Belle married their son Henry. He was a Freemason of the Blue Springs lodge.
In the 1890s the family moved on to Colorado. His father's obituary of February 1897 already calls him "Alfred, of Colorado." At Sunset, a mining camp in the mountains west of Boulder, he bought the stage line to Boulder, and when the railroad came up the canyon and ended it, he and his wife Emma kept the Columbia Hotel there for about fifteen years. He died at Sunset of dropsy at noon on 2 June 1915, after an illness all winter. Seven of his children survived him. The Daily Camera called him "an estimable citizen" and "veteran miner of this county." He is buried at Sunset.
