Alice Adulce Roberts
Alice Adulce Roberts was born on 12 November 1860 in Johnson County, Iowa. Her family gives her parents as William Roberts and Mary Elizabeth Eberley. Her unusual middle name appears on her son Scoville's marriage record of 1912 as Adulce; her son Ray's birth record gives it as Elsie, and her family later wrote it Dulce.
On 20 May 1880, in Johnson County, she married Samuel Alexander Lehman, a Johnson County man two months younger than she was. Their son William Christopher was born in Johnson County on 4 July 1884. The family moved to Cass County in southwest Iowa, where Scoville was born in 1891 and Ivan Ray in 1897. In 1900 they were farming in Edna Township with William, Scoville and Ray. When William married Jennie Waldron in December 1902, the marriage record named his mother as Alice Roberts.
One of William's daughters, born in 1907, was named LaVerne Adulce after her.
Alice and Samuel spent their last years at Glendive, in eastern Montana. Samuel died in 1943. Alice died at Glendive on 8 May 1947, aged 86, and is buried beside him in the Dawson County Cemetery under a flat stone that reads ALICE A., 1860-1947.
