Alice May Minshew was born on 8 June 1889 at Pierson, in Volusia County, Florida. Pierson was a farming settlement in the west of the county, between DeLand and Palatka. Her parents are given on her grave memorial as Willoughby Minshew (1862 to 1938) and Mary Jane Bennett (1868 to 1897), whose own memorials link to her. Her brothers and sisters there are Eva Jane (1891 to 1951), later Mrs. Morrison, and Franklin Willoughby "Frank" Minshew (1895 to 1973), with a half-sister Annie M. (1893 to 1923), later Mrs. McCullough.

She married George Benjamin Price, born at Barberville, a few miles north of Pierson. Their son Harry F. Price was born on 3 February 1910, James on 4 January 1912, and Mildred Gertrude on 6 January 1913. In January 1920 the census found them at Bayard, in Duval County, with a fourth child, Lila May, two months old. Alice was listed as May Price, 30.

On 30 April 1920 George, foreman of the Pablo Cypress Company at Oak Landing in St. Johns County, was shot and killed. He was 32. His death certificate names his wife as Mary Price. Alice was a widow at 30, with four children aged from ten years down to five months.

By the 1930 census she was back at Pierson, the head of her own house. The census taker wrote her as Mrs. Alice May Price, 40, widowed. Living with her were Mildred, 17, and Lila May, 10. Her sons were old enough by then to be on their own.

Both daughters married in Virginia. Mildred married Jake Raulerson, a trucker from Pierson, at Fairfax on 24 November 1934, and the marriage register names her parents as George Price and Alice M. Minshew. Lila Mae married Monroe Horace Sharpe at Fredericksburg on 19 December 1939, and married again at Arlington in 1950; both certificates name her mother as Alice Minchew.

Alice later married Sidney P. Johnson (1888 to 1973). She died on 20 July 1970 at Switzerland, in St. Johns County, aged 81, and was buried in the Switzerland Community Cemetery under a flat stone reading "Alice May Johnson." Her son Harry and her daughter Mildred lie in the same cemetery.
