Alice Tuthill
Alice was the wife of Henry Tuthill of Tharston in Norfolk. Five of their children were baptised at St Mary's church in Tharston: John in 1607, William in 1609, Henry on 28 June 1612, Alice in 1614 and Elizabeth in 1616.
She was probably born a Gooch. Her husband's will names "John Gooch, father", and in a will of that time a man of another surname called "father" was usually the testator's father-in-law. The same will names "Margaret Rau, mother-in-law" and "Ann Woodyard, kinswoman."
Her husband made his will on 20 March 1618/19, naming "wife Alice, and the five children," and he was buried at Tharston within the week. The will was proved on 20 April 1619. She was left with children of eleven, nine, six, four and two. What became of her afterwards is not known.
Two of her sons went to New England. John, her eldest, was at New Haven by 1640 and became the first constable of Southold on Long Island before going back to England. Henry came to Hingham in Massachusetts in the 1630s with his wife Bridget and moved on to Southold.
