Andrew Jackson Cluck was born on 20 March 1837 in Alabama. He carried the name of Andrew Jackson, the general and president, who had left the White House two weeks before.

He married Malinda J. Russell on 12 December 1859. The date is part of the inscription recorded for his grave. Their daughter Ellen D. Cluck, called Ella, was born on 24 July 1861.

During the Civil War Andrew served as a private in Company E of the 4th Alabama Cavalry, on the Confederate side. That too is on his stone.

In 1870 the census taker found the family in Civil District 11 of Marion County, Tennessee. Andrew was 32 and Alabama-born. Malinda was listed at 43. Their children Ellen, 10, James, 9, and Fanny, 7, were all born in Tennessee. The same district held the Raulston family, and in 1877 Ella married Robert S. Raulston, a son of Hugh Lawson White Raulston.

Ella died in 1892, on her thirty-first birthday, months after her daughter Ellen Texas was born. Andrew outlived her by thirteen years. He died on 25 September 1905, aged 68, and is buried in Mount Carmel Cemetery.
