Ann Crowhurst

Ann Crowhurst was christened at All Saints, Iden, on 16 October 1791, the daughter of Edward and Susannah Crowhurst. Iden is the parish next to Rye on the Sussex border with Kent. Her brothers James, Edward and Samuel were christened there in 1787, 1789 and 1793.

On 13 November 1814 she married George Dann at St Mary's, Rye. Both were of that parish, and they married by banns. The witnesses were James Crowhurst and Elizabeth Blackman. The register notes that the bride, groom and witnesses all signed their names.

George drove post-chaises. Their children were christened at Rye: Ann in May 1815, George in November 1818, Edward in October 1821, Joseph in July 1823 and Rebecca on 1 January 1825.

A week after Rebecca's christening, Ann was buried at Iden, on 8 January 1825. She was 33. Her husband married again in 1827. When he died in 1860, he too was buried at Iden. Her son George became a printer at Dover and died at St. Louis, Missouri.
