Ann Ellery was the wife of Robert Myres of Hovingham, a village in the North Riding of Yorkshire, near York. She was the mother of Thomas Myers, LL.D., who became professor of mathematics at the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich.

She was probably the Anne who was christened at Hovingham on 13 June 1736. The entry reads "Anne, daughter of John Ellery, of Woolknowl, Labourer". Wool Knoll was a place in Hovingham parish. Her father was a labourer, entered once as a farmer. She was one of at least seven children. Her brother George died at six in 1734, two years before she was born, and her youngest sister Susanna died at nine in 1753. Her father was buried in March 1748, when she was eleven.

On 1 March 1774, at Hovingham, she married Robert Myres by licence. A licence let a couple marry without having banns read in church on three Sundays. The witnesses were John Barnaby, William Foxton, Thomas Jones and James Hammond. If she was the Anne of 1736 she was 37, and her husband about 32. Seven months later her sister Margaret married Mathew Lowther, on 1 October 1774.

Her son Thomas was baptized at Hovingham on 13 February 1775. His monuments at Lewisham give his birthday as 13 February 1773. A daughter, Ann, was baptized on 25 April 1777, as the child of Robert and Ann Myres, and buried on 14 March 1781. A daughter Jane was baptized in June 1784, but that entry names only her father, and Ann would then have been 48. Whether Jane was hers is not certain.

Her husband died of a fever in July 1807, aged 65. Their son was by then a professor at Woolwich, newly married. Ann lived on at Hovingham as a widow for twelve years. "Ann Myers, aged 83, of Hovingham" was buried there on 29 September 1819. That age matches the christening of 1736 to the year, and no other Ann Ellery of the right age appears in the Hovingham entries. It is the reason the christening is taken as hers.
