Ann Lee was born on 26 December 1752 in the Black River Settlement of New Hanover County, North Carolina. Her mother was also named Ann Lee. Her father's name is not known.
In February 1778 she married Robert Hendry, a young Scot from the Isle of Arran who had come to North Carolina about 1770. He went off to the Revolutionary War and was at Yorktown in 1781. Ann bore nine children in New Hanover County between 1778 and 1795: John, Neal, William, James, Robert, George, Archibald, Elizabeth Ann and Mary.
About 1796 the family moved to Burke County, Georgia. Her mother died near Buckhead, in Burke County, on 26 November 1800. In 1801 the Hendrys settled at Taylors Creek, in Liberty County. Ann was a charter member of the Taylors Creek Methodist Episcopal Church, founded in 1807, while her husband was a Presbyterian of Midway Congregational Church.
Ann was widowed in August 1830. As the widow of a Revolutionary soldier she drew a lot in the Cherokee Land Lottery, lot 70 in the 9th District of the 4th Section of Cherokee County, in land that is now Walker County. She made her will on 3 February 1834, "being very sick and weak of body," and died at Taylors Creek on 31 May 1834, aged eighty-one. She was buried beside her husband in the Hendry Cemetery.
Through her sons John and William she is an ancestor of the Hendrys of Arcadia and of Capt. Francis Asbury Hendry, for whom Hendry County, Florida, is named.
