Ann Savell
Ann Savell was baptised at St Mary the Virgin, Saffron Walden, in Essex, on 26 April 1601. Under April the register reads "An the daughter of William Savell 26". Her father was a joiner of the town, and her mother was Margaret Parker. She was the fifth of ten children baptised there.
On 25 April 1625 she married Samuel Bass at St Mary's: "Samuell Basse & Anne Savell the 25". Their son Samuel was baptised there in May 1626, John in the autumn of 1630 and Ann in October 1632. A daughter Mary was born about 1628.
In 1633 she and Samuel took their children to New England. At Roxbury they joined the church of John Eliot. About 1640 they moved to the new town of Braintree, where Samuel was ordained the first deacon of the church. Her brother William came to Braintree too. Her father was buried at Saffron Walden in February 1638/9.
Her son John married Ruth Alden, a daughter of John Alden of the Mayflower.
She died at Braintree on 5 September 1693. The town clerk wrote "Mrs Ann Bas, the wife of Decon Samuel Bass, died the 5th of September 1693, aged 93". Her headstone gives her age as ninety-two, and her baptism shows the stone is right. Her husband died the next year.
