Anna Einersen

Born 6 October 1855 at Leikanger on the Sognefjord, daughter of Endre Einersen and Unni Olsdatter. The Norwegian census of 31 December 1865 has the whole household at Hestoen in Leikanger: her father entered as husfader and husmand med jord, a cottar holding land under somebody else's farm, her mother beside him, and six children at home, Kari 22, Ole 18, Synneva 17, Mari 14, Anna 11 and Gjertrud 8.

She crossed as a child of ten. In April 1866, four months after that census was taken, the whole household sailed from Bergen for Quebec, and she is on the passenger list as Anna Tjoen. She married Sever Olson Lofthus in western Minnesota in 1873, at about eighteen. Ten children followed between 1874 and 1898. She outlived her husband by fifteen years and died at Montevideo on 27 July 1945, aged eighty-nine, and was buried beside him in Sunset Memorial Cemetery, in the same plot, Block 115, Lot 4.

Her parents came over too, and did not end together: her father died in Chippewa County in 1898 and lies at Milan, and her mother had died five years earlier three hundred miles north, in Polk County, and lies in Clay County.
