Endre Einersen
Born 26 January 1816 in Leikanger parish on the Sognefjord, and a husmand med jord there, a cottar holding land under a larger farm and paying for it in work. The census of 31 December 1865 sets him down at Hestoen in Leikanger as husfader, aged fifty, with his wife Unni Olsdatter, also Leikanger-born, and six children at home: Kari 22, Ole 18, Synneva 17, Mari 14, Anna 11 and Gjertrud 8.
He did not follow his children to America; he took them. In April 1866, four months after the census, the whole household of eight sailed from Bergen for Quebec, all of them entered on the passenger list under the farm name Tjoen. He was fifty. He died on 23 June 1898 in Chippewa County, Minnesota, aged eighty-two, and is buried at Big Bend Lutheran Church Cemetery at Milan, in plot G 29.
He and Unni did not end in the same ground. She had died five years before him in Polk County, far to the north, and was buried in Clay County; he died and was buried in the southern county where their daughter Anna had settled with the Lofthus family. The records do not explain the distance.
