Anna Lord
Anna Lord was baptised at Towcester, in Northamptonshire, on 18 September 1614. She was the second child and eldest daughter of Thomas Lord and Dorothy Bird. She grew up at Towcester with six younger brothers and sisters.
She was twenty when the family sailed from London in the Elizabeth and Ann on 29 April 1635. After a year or more near Boston they went with Thomas Hooker's company to the Connecticut River in 1636, and her father was one of the first proprietors of Hartford. About 1637 she married Thomas Stanton, in the year he fixed his abode at Hartford and went on the colony's payroll as its interpreter. They had ten children between 1638 and 1657.
She kept the household through the years her husband spent away interpreting for the colony, and moved it twice more. They went first to New London in the autumn of 1650, after he built his trading-house on the Pawcatuck. In 1657 they moved out to the trading-house itself, on the far eastern edge of the colony, and stayed. Her husband died there in the late 1670s. She outlived him by about ten years and died at Stonington in 1688.
