Anna Mae Southard
Anna Mae Southard was born on 24 February 1864 at Lake Hopatcong, Morris County, New Jersey. Her burial memorial names her father as Timothy Southard, a lawyer, educator, farmer and justice of the peace for Morris County, and her mother as Sarah Elizabeth Babbit.
About 1883 she married William Francis Trowbridge of Mount Freedom. In June 1900 she was 35 and had been married seventeen years. She was living in Randolph Township with William and their children Harry, 11, Elwood, 10, Myrtle, 2, and Robert, born the previous August. She had nine children in all: Willie, Ellwood, Harry, Mahlon, Myrtle, Robert, Eddie, Winifred Minnie and Walter.
William died in December 1935. Anna lived on as a widow for more than twenty years. In May 1950 she was 86 and living in Randolph Township in the house of her son Robert, with his wife Clara and their four children. A photograph taken in 1953, when she was 89, shows her standing on a path among trees in a light dress.
She died at Mill Brook in Randolph Township on 22 May 1959, aged 95. She is buried in the Trowbridge family plot at Mount Freedom Presbyterian Cemetery, section E, row 6, beside William and several of their sons, in unmarked graves along the eastern stone wall.
