Anna Maria Latinne
Born at Vottem, a village on the northern edge of Liege, and married there to Henri Derrez before 1757. She came north with him over the language line into Dutch Limburg, where her Walloon surname was spelled Latenne, Lattenne, Latinne and finally Lateim by clerks who had never seen it before, and where she bore at least ten children. Nine of them were christened at Schinnen between 1760 and 1776, the household moving between the hamlets of Nagelbeek, Schutteneind and Broek before settling at Moutheuvel.
She buried three of those children young, one at a year old in 1766, one at a year old in 1776, and her daughter Maria Catharina at fourteen in the winter of 1785. Four years after that she died herself. The Schinnen burial register records that about vespers on 13 November 1789 she died of consumption at Moutheuvel, Anna Maria Latinne, born at Vottem near Liege, wife of Henricus Derrez, that she had been fortified with the customary sacraments of the church, and that on the sixteenth she was buried in the parish churchyard.
Her husband married again six months later. Nine years after that he was buried in the same ground and the priest still identified him as her widower.
Her own parents are not named by any record read. One record disagrees with the rest about where she came from: her son's 1779 marriage entry calls her Anna Maria Lattenne ex Oirsbek, of Oirsbeek in Limburg, against her own burial entry and a second Schinnen entry that both say Vottem. Her burial is the better authority, being about her rather than about her son, but the disagreement is real and is left standing here.
