Anna Saylors was born about 1806. Her son John's sketch in the Adair County history of 1888 says she was a native of South Carolina, reared mostly in Tennessee. Her son William's sketch calls her a native of North Carolina and spells the name Sailors.

She married Thomas Elmore in Tennessee. Their son William C. was born in White County, Tennessee, on 5 February 1825. In the fall of 1830 the family moved to Schuyler County, Illinois, and settled four miles east of Rushville. She reared ten children to maturity there, six sons and four daughters, among them William C., John S. and Andrew J. Elmore, who all later farmed in Adair County, Missouri.

She died at her husband's house on 13 October 1879. The Rushville Times called her one of the early pioneers of the county and gave the cause as general debility. Thomas died four months later. They are buried in Messerer Cemetery, near Pleasant View.
