Anne Gurine Olsdatter
Anne Gurine Olsdatter, also written Ane Gurine, was very probably the child christened Anne Gurine in Holt church in July 1771. That child's parents were Ole Alfsen and Ingeborg Jensdatter, who lived at Hanto Eie, the land belonging to the farm Hanto in Holt parish. Holt is the country parish behind Tvedestrand on the Skagerrak coast.
The identification is strong. The pairing of names is rare: no other Anne Gurine Olsdatter is known in Holt, Tvedestrand or Dypvåg, and the Holt baptisms of 1768 to 1773 hold only this one Anne Gurine. Her patronymic needs a father named Ole. A child of July 1771 would have been fifty-five in August 1826, and her burial gives fifty-six, an ordinary drift in ages at death. And by September 1788 Ole Alfsen was living at Joranstad, the farm she married from a year later. In 1786 she was confirmed in Holt church as "Anne Gurine Olsdatter Joranstad, 15", sixteenth among the girls. The age fits a child born in 1771 and the farm is her father's, though the list does not name parents.
On 31 October 1789 she married Elef Olsen, a man of Gjerpen parish in Telemark, in Holt church. They married by royal licence, a letter from the Crown that let a couple marry without the usual banns. Their daughter Tore Oline was baptized at Holt on 8 October 1797, and Anne Gurine was churched, given thanks in church for a safe birth, two weeks later. In 1816 her husband held the largest share of Joranstad.
She died at Joranstad on 7 August 1826 and was buried at Holt a week later, on 14 August. The clerk entered her as Konen, the wife, Anne Gurine Olsdatter, aged fifty-six. Her daughter had married the skipper Ole Aslaksen on the same farm four years before.
