Annichen Strømberg
Annichen Strømberg, wife of Johannes Berg, the bruksfogd or works bailiff at Hafslund in Østfold. Hafslund was an ironworks and estate on the Glomma outside Sarpsborg, and her husband ran its business. Her father was a Hans: the Skjeberg clerk entered her in 1758 as Annichen Hansd., Hansdatter, where her burial gives the surname Strømberg.
In October 1758 she and her husband had a son christened at Skjeberg, Peter Anthonius. The godparents were the justitsråd Eliæson and his wife, S. Kleboe with his fiancée, Hr. Grønbeck and S. Niels Steen. The Eliæsons and a Grønbek stood again for her daughter Anna Pettrona in 1762.
Her daughter Ingeborg Cathrine married Captain Gregers Smidt of the Rakkestad company, whom the family account has meeting her about the time the company came to Hafslundmoen for its regimental exercise in September 1777. That daughter had six children at Rakkestad, and the third son, born in 1792, was christened Hans Strømberg Smidt.
That grandson's middle name is how her surname reached the family histories. She was buried at Skjeberg in September 1787, aged sixty-six. Her parents are not known beyond her father's given name, and no Strømberg family has been found at Hafslund or anywhere near it.
