Annie Eliza Chase was born at Dennis on 16 May 1847, the daughter of Alexander Brooks Chase and Tabitha E. Howland, and was entered in the birth record as Ann Eliza. Her mother had married at sixteen, the October before. She was a Chase by birth and a Chase by marriage: on 19 December 1865, at Harwich, at eighteen, she married Daniel Barnes Chase of Harwich. Their nine children were born at Dennis between 1866 and 1888; the seventh, Anna Eliza, married Stephen Crowell of Yarmouth in 1899.
Daniel died in 1901. In her last years Annie lived at South Yarmouth, near her daughter Anna Crowell. She fell ill in September 1908 and was under a doctor's care from the 20th. She died at South Yarmouth on 5 November 1908, at sixty-one years, five months and nineteen days. Her daughter Annie Crowell gave the particulars for the death return. She was buried on 8 November at the Ancient Cemetery, South Dennis, beside Daniel, under a white marble stone that reads "Daniel B. Chase, 1843-1901. Annie E., his wife, 1847-1908." Her father outlived her by six months.
