Annie Eugenia Garrett
Annie Eugenia Brown was born on 10 July 1874 in Tennessee, the sixth of the thirteen children of Arthur Pinkney Brown and Telitha Jane Driver. In 1877, when she was two, her family moved to western Falls County, Texas, and settled near what became Rosebud.
She married Robert Ephriam Garrett, recorded in her family's biography as "A. Eif Garrett." That biography names eight children: Lela; Estella, who married Hillary Barganier of Lott; Vera; Jewel; Willie B., who married Eugene Shelton of Lott; Leola; A. E. Jr., called Buddy; and Woodrow. Union Cemetery records another son of the couple, Darnell W. Garrett, born in 1893, who died in September 1918.
In November 1931 her husband, a blacksmith at Belfalls, was found shot near Troy and died at home. An inquest called it murder. She was widowed for more than thirty years.
After her husband's death she moved to Lott to raise the children still at home. A photograph from her later years shows her standing on the front steps of her house in a dark dress, white-haired and in glasses. A great-great-granddaughter wrote that Annie Eugenia was buried apart from her husband, who lies in Union Cemetery, because she was afraid of the dark.
Annie Eugenia Garrett died on 25 August 1965 and is buried in Clover Hill Cemetery at Lott, Falls County.
