Annie (Shinbrot) Slovik
Annie Shinbrot was born in Russian Poland on 4 May 1893 and came to Brooklyn as a small girl, her father Jacob arriving about 1900. She married Charles Slovik on 22 June 1912, at nineteen, giving her address as 380 South 1st Street. The certificate names her parents as Jacob and Rive Brushewski.
They had three children, Sidney, Arthur and Ruth. In 1920 her father was living in the household with them. The family stayed at Assembly District 16 in Brooklyn through 1940 and beyond.
Charles died in 1956. She outlived him by nearly forty one years, moved south as her children did, and died in Broward County, Florida on 10 December 1996, at a hundred and three. Her obituary ran at Fort Lauderdale two days later.
She is buried at Star of David Memorial Gardens in North Lauderdale, in the Garden of Leah. The flat granite marker is engraved with a pair of Sabbath candlesticks and reads ANNA SLOVIK, 1892 to 1996, Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother. Her daughter Ruth was buried in the same section nine years later, under a marker cut to the same pattern.
