Ruth (Slovik) Cohen
Ruth Slovik was born in Brooklyn on 7 June 1925, the youngest of three and the only daughter of Charles Slovik, a tailor out of Warsaw, and Annie Shinbrot. Her brothers Sidney and Arthur were nine and seven years older. In 1940 the five of them were in Assembly District 16, in a house the family had already been living in for at least five years.
She married Murray Ely Cohen, who had grown up in the same district and whose parents' household stood a few streets from her own. By the census of 1 April 1950 the two of them were at Queens Village in Queens with a daughter, Linda, born in 1948.
Like her mother and her brother Arthur, she ended on the south Florida coast. She was living at Coconut Creek when she died on 17 November 2005, at eighty, and her obituary ran at Fort Lauderdale three days later.
She is buried at Star of David Memorial Gardens in North Lauderdale, in the section called the Garden of Leah, where her mother had been buried nine years before. The marker reads COHEN, RUTH, 1925 to 2005, Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother.
