Annie Urban
Annie Urban was born in Bohemia about 1812. Like her husband Frank she is known in America from the census of 1880, which places her, aged sixty-eight, in the household of her son-in-law Albert Hercules, relationship written mother-in-law, born in Bohemia of Bohemian parents, occupation, at home.
Her daughter Josephine, born about 1844, had married Albert by about 1865 and was by 1880 the mother of seven children in the house, so Annie spent her last recorded years surrounded by American-born grandchildren.
Frank died that same autumn, on November 21, 1880, at a house on Fulton Street, and was buried at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery; the register recorded him married, so Annie outlived him. Her own death is not known. The city's register of deaths before 1910, which holds Frank's, has no entry for her under Urban or any close spelling, and the two St. Louis women of the name who died in 1917 and 1918 were born in 1860 and 1870. She probably died between 1880 and 1910. Annie is almost certainly an English rendering of a Czech given name, most likely Anna.
