Antoni Jelonek
Antoni Jelonek was born at Pustkowie Kamienskie, a clearing in the parish of Przystajn, about 1773 or 1775. By his own account at his second wedding, his parents were Jerzy and Maryanna Jelonek, who kept a farm there. He spent his whole life among the hamlets of that parish.
He married Maryanna Trzepizur, and by 1813 they were living at Bor. He was thirty eight when their daughter Maryanna was born there on 28 June 1813. He walked to the priest the next morning with two neighbours and gave his wife's name. None of them could write.
The family moved around the parish, appearing at Kaminsko in 1816 and at Bor Zajacinski in 1818. By 1834 they were back at the Kamienskie clearing. There he and his wife gave their spoken consent when their daughter married Walenty Krawczyk of Panki. His wife was dead by November 1839, when their son Antoni married at Bor.
In May 1843 he married again. He was seventy, a widower living with one of his sons at the clearing. The bride was Anastazja Paciepnik of Panki, widowed for nine years, and she was the mother of the man his daughter had married. He lived twenty months as a married man. He died at the clearing at five in the morning on 20 January 1845, aged seventy, and his widow was then living at Panki.
Jelonek is one of the oldest names in this parish and it runs through every decade of its registers. That makes him easy to find and easy to confuse with the wrong man. His second marriage is what fixes which death is his.
