Arlis Junior Mink
Arlis Junior Mink was born on 11 September 1927, the first child of Joseph Franklin Mink and his second wife, Ida Irene Reeves. His father was then 53, a farmer and landowner in the hills south of Red Bay, and already had grown children from his first marriage. Arlis was followed by Robert Ollis, who died as a baby, then Oniece, George T., Lorece, Hazel, Charles and Vernell.
On 1 November 1947 Arlis married Roxie Bell Lindsey of the Ryans Well community. Both were 20. The next spring his father died suddenly. On 4 May 1949 Joseph Frank Mink fell from his seat in the Itawamba County courthouse, where he was a witness in a lawsuit, and was dead within five minutes. His obituary listed his children, Arlis among them as "Orlis," all of Red Bay, Route 1.
Two months later, in July 1949, Arlis and Roxie's daughter Brenda Sue was born. A son, Larry Rickey, followed on 18 March 1957 at Red Bay, Alabama. Brenda later married Neal Vinson of Golden.
Arlis died on 13 April 1982, aged 54. He was buried at Sandy Springs Cemetery near Fulton, Itawamba County. Roxie lived another thirty-four years and was buried beside him in 2016. The stone they share is marked MINK, with "Mother" under her name, "Father" under his, and between them two linked rings and "Married Nov. 1, 1947."
