Atherton Hall
Atherton Hall was the father of Dr. Atherton Hall of Westminster, Vermont. The Vermont birth record of his son, on 29 October 1800 at Westminster, names the parents as Atherton Hall and Olive. His wife was Olive Hallet.
Atherton and Olive Hall had nine children at Westminster: Atherton, the future doctor, Hiram, Ebenezer, Sally, Harriett, Olive, Nathan H., Eliza Jane and Edward. Westminster lies in the Connecticut River valley, and many of its families had come up from Cape Cod. The Clarks of Harwich arrived in 1797 and the Gorhams of Yarmouth in 1788. His son married Mehitable Clark, a granddaughter of both families, in 1828.
He died at Westminster on 21 November 1848, aged seventy-eight, and is buried in the Westminster West Cemetery. He is remembered there as Atherton Hall Jr.
An Atherton Hall was born on 4 November 1770 and christened at Yarmouth, on Cape Cod, the son of Atherton Hall and Ruth. The name is rare and the year matches, so this is very probably the same man. A Hall family history lists an Atherton, born in 1748, among the sixteen children of Daniel Hall of Yarmouth. That elder Atherton was probably the father named in the christening.
