Azariah Denney was born in Ohio about 1828 and spent his life in Springfield Township, Gallia County. In 1850 he was twenty two and living in the farmhouse of John and Margaret Denney with ten of their other children. The enumerator wrote his name Isariah.

He married Mary Sprouse in Gallia County on 16 June 1851.

Two Azariah Denneys were farming side by side in Springfield Township in 1870, and they are easy to confuse. The elder was born in North Carolina in 1804, married Mary Coughenour, and is buried at Fairview Cemetery. The younger is this man. In 1870 he kept dwelling 245 with his wife Mary, forty two, and children Charlotte eighteen, Edward fourteen and Charles six. Hudson Denny, sixteen, was entered four doors away in the house of William Watkins, a North Carolina farmer of seventy five.

In 1880 Azariah was still in Springfield Township, aged fifty two, with his daughter Charlotte, twenty eight, his son Charles, sixteen, and two small girls, Mary and Ida. His wife is not in the house, and a Hannah Maguire of forty four was keeping it.

No record of his death has been found.
