Barbara Satterfield, written Barbary on her marriage return, married Joseph Toothman in Marion County on 30 August 1846. She was about seventeen.
She was a daughter of Daniel Satterfield of Pharaohs Run. Her father died about 1857 with a land sale unfinished, and on 1 January 1858 she and her husband appear at the head of the list of grantors who had to put it right. The deed calls them *Joseph Toothman and Barbary A. his wife*, and a few lines later calls the whole group the heirs of said Daniel Satterfield. The clerk then took her aside, *privily and apart from her husband*, explained the paper to her, and recorded that she said she had executed it willingly and did not wish to retract it.
The 1860 census of Magisterial District 5 has her at thirty one, born in Virginia, keeping a house with five children in it. The youngest boy is Daniel W. Toothman, aged one, carrying her father's name two years after his death.
Her daughter's 1933 death return got the father's given name wrong and the mother's right.
