Benedict D. Langley
Benedict D. Langley was born on 2 May 1852 in Daviess County, Missouri. He went by B. D., Ben and Bennie Dick, and the 1920 census taker wrote him down as Dick B. Langley. His memorial names his parents as William Henry Langley and Nancy Carrier. In 1870 he was a young man in Monroe Township, Daviess County.
On 6 February 1879 he married Sarah Jane Hankins in Ray County, Missouri, the county where she had been born. In 1880 the couple were living at Knoxville, in Ray County. Their son Walter Everett was born in Missouri in 1885 or 1886, and there were at least five other children: Willie, Charley, Anna, Emma and Bessie.
About 1897 B. D. moved the family south to Oklahoma Territory. The census of 1900 found them at Cloud Chief, in Washita County, with the name written Longley: Benedict, born May 1854 by that return, his wife Sarah, and Anna, Willie, Emma, Walter and Charley. In 1910 he and Sarah were in Jacobs Township, Hughes County, with their daughter Bessie. That spring their son Walter's second boy, Ernest, was born nearby at Bilby. By 1920 they had moved on to Pontotoc County.
B. D. Langley died at Frisco, Pontotoc County, on 18 January 1920, aged 67, and was buried in the Frisco Cemetery. His small red granite stone, carved with a sprig of leaves, reads B.D. LANGLEY, MAY 2 1852, JAN 18 1920.
