Walter Everett Langley
Walter Everett Langley was born in Missouri, on 23 November 1885 by his memorial, which places his birth in Ray County. His father, Benedict D. Langley, known as B. D., had been born in Daviess County, Missouri. About 1897 Benedict moved the family south to Oklahoma Territory. In 1900 the census found them at Cloud Chief, in Washita County, with the name written Longley: Benedict and Sarah, and their children Walter, Willie, Charley, Anna and Emma.
About 1906 Walter married Susan Elvina Stroope, called Susie, a girl born in Texas. Their son Luther Everett was born in 1907. Ernest Franklin followed in April 1910, at Bilby in Hughes County. In 1920 the family was in Pontotoc County, where Walter's father died that January, with Luther, Ernest, Jewel and the baby Mamie. Mamie died that year. Vernon was born in 1922, and there were two more sons, Ira and Lewis, who died before their brother Ernest.
By 1930 Walter and Susie had moved north to Rose Township in Payne County, near Glencoe, with Luther, Juil and Vernon at home. Their son Ernest had married a Glencoe girl, Viola Focht, and lived nearby. In 1940 Walter and Susie were in Flint Township, Benton County, in the northwest corner of Arkansas, with Luther and Vernon. Walter died in Benton County on 11 October 1943, aged 57, and was buried in the Gentry Cemetery. Susie outlived him by forty two years.
