Benjamin Taber
Benjamin Taber was born at Dartmouth, Massachusetts, on 2 December 1706. The town book is worn at his father's name; a duplicate entry supplies Joseph. His father was Joseph Taber and his mother Elizabeth Spooner.
On 5 February 1729/30 he married Susanna Lewis before the Dartmouth Friends, at the Acushnet meeting house. The Friends' book names him "Benjamin Taber son of Joseph Taber of Dartmouth", and her "Susanna Luis daughter of John Luis late of Dartmouth ... Deceased". The Quaker clerk dated it "this fifth day of the twelfth month called February ... one thousand seven hundred and twenty nine or thirty". The Tabers who signed as witnesses included Joseph, Joseph Jr., Amos and Mary.
The town recorded their children's births under "Benjamin and Susanah". There were at least fourteen: Elizabeth in 1730, Joseph in 1731/2, Benjamin in 1733, John in 1735, then Archelaus, Joshua, Mary, Jeduthan, Thomas, Rebecca, Jeremiah, Lewis, a second Joshua and Seth. The first Joshua died at thirteen in 1753, and the next son born that year was given the same name.
His son John became a blacksmith. When John's intention to marry was published in 1761, the clerk wrote him as "John Taber, s. Benj[ami]n". Randall's genealogy of 1924 says Benjamin died about 1782.
